In the year 1824 the inhabitants
of Obersommerkau talk about rumors that West- and East-Prussia were combined
into one province called "Prusssia". Therefore, we begin from that point
with a
preface
to contemporary history
in the year
1824:
Karl
X. Philipp was elected King of France. In the war
of independence in South America
Antonio José de Sucre won against the Spaniards
at Ayacucho in Peru. Mexico becomes a republic. In a land far
away called "Australia" someone organized a colony for prisoners in one
of the provinces called "Brisbane".
1824
is the year of the birth in Francisca,
Brasil of the daughter of Peter or Pedro IV of Portugal
and his wife Leopoldine of Habsburg. Marie
von Hessen is born and will later become Zarin and wife
of Zar Alexander II Nokloajewitsch. Wilhelm II of the Netherlands
and his wife have a daughter named Sophie
of the Netherlands , and Karl V
of Spain expects a son from Maria of Braganza named Ferdinand
VIII of Spain. And
in Scotland,
a boy named John
Kerr was born who later became a great physicist (see:
explorations of the electro- and magneto-optical "Kerr-effects").
In Germany the physicist of electricity, Gustav
Kirchhoff (see: "Theories of Kirchhoff") is born.
Also in this year, Friedrich Smetana
is born in Tschechien and Anton
Bruckner is born in Austria. These two men will
later become great composers.
1824:
A mourning is taking place for the death (on September 16th) of Ludwig
XVIII of France and and
the death of Anna Karoline
of Nassau, the wife of Duke Friedrich
Karl of Brunswik and Lüneburg. Also the stepson of Napoleon I Bonaparte,
Eugen
Beauharnais dies, the Duke of Leuchtenberg
and Prince of Eichstätt. The great crafter of French violins, named
"Stradivaris", Nicolas
Lupot and the British doctor named
James
Parkinson died in this year as
well.
Entirely apart from these important
worldwide events in this year,
